Trust in God in all things...

Luke 12:22-34

In Luke 12:22 to 34, the Lord Jesus speaks directly to anxious hearts. He turns to His disciples and says, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on.” These words from the ESV confront one of the most common struggles of fallen humanity: worry.

Jesus does not minimize real needs. Food and clothing are essential. Yet He commands His disciples not to be ruled by anxiety. Why? Because life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Our existence is not ultimately sustained by our effort, but by the sovereign hand of God the Father.

He points to the ravens. They neither sow nor reap, yet God feeds them. He reminds us that we are of more value than the birds. In a world that measures worth by productivity, Christ anchors our value in God’s electing love and providential care. If He faithfully sustains lesser creatures, will He not certainly sustain those whom He has chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world?

Jesus then asks, “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” Anxiety is powerless. It cannot extend life, secure tomorrow, or change the decrees of God. This is deeply comforting, because the same God who ordains the ends also ordains the means. Every breath we take has already been written in His book. Worry is not only unproductive, it forgets who reigns.

He continues with the lilies of the field. They do not toil or spin, yet even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If God so clothes the grass, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? Anxiety ultimately reveals a faith problem. It is a struggle to trust the Father’s goodness and sovereignty.

Jesus contrasts His disciples with the nations of the world. “For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them.” The unbelieving world runs after material security because it has no covenant Father. But believers have been adopted through Christ. We are not spiritual orphans. Our Father knows. Not suspects. Not guesses. He knows.

The command in verse 31 is central: “Instead, seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.” Our priority is not self preservation, but the reign of God. We seek His righteousness, His glory, His purposes. When our hearts are aligned with His kingdom, we rest in His provision.

Then comes one of the most tender promises in Scripture: “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Notice the certainty. The kingdom is not a possibility. It is a gift. It flows from the Father’s good pleasure. This echoes the doctrines of grace. Our salvation and inheritance are grounded not in our worthiness, but in His sovereign delight to save.

Because the kingdom is secure, we are free to hold earthly possessions loosely. Jesus calls His followers to radical generosity and eternal perspective. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Anxiety chains the heart to this world. Faith sets it on heaven.

Luke 12:22 to 34 calls us to repent of worry and to rest in the faithful providence of God. The One who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all will surely supply all we truly need. In Christ, we have more than food, more than clothing, more than security. We have the kingdom.

We always encourage everyone to check everything through the lens of the Scriptures. Be like the noble Bereans of Paul's day. Please visit us here for much more, and remember, Christ is enough.

Let us continue trusting God, no matter the circumstances...never has there been a time when God has not provided for any of us.

Until we meet again beloved family, lets go serve our King!
