The promise of God

God swore by Himself, for there is none greater...

Welcome brothers and sisters!

We are glad to have everyone each week, and we are thankful the Lord brings us all together to worship and know Him!  As we continue through our current series we want to keep encouraging you to follow along in the scriptures, always checking everything by them.  The very lens we have in this life is the one the Lord gives us and we should apply all we see, think or do through it.  Sharing the Gospel is so important, just look at the world around us and we can easily see death and lies being eaten up by everyone around.  We are called out of this, being given a great light and promise, a hope that never dies and it's one we can and are told to share!  With this weeks video, we encourage you to watch and share, contact us for anything we may be able to help with or even answer for the questions you may have.  We pray you enjoy Pastor Scott's sermon on Hebrews 6:13-20, as we look at the very promise of God.  Do you enjoy His promise?  Does He hold it for you in Christ?  Hopefully the answer is yes, but if not, today is the day to call upon the Lord for salvation...none of us are promised tomorrow; but you can be promised eternal life in Christ.  Below is a summary from the topic in the sermon and we hope you spend some time with us next Saturday as we worship, fellowship and share a meal afterward.  The resources for this summary is www.biblegateway.com, Microsoft Bing and the most important...the Bible.  We love and care for you brothers and sisters and hope to see you soon!

The certainty of God's Promise

The book of Hebrews is a letter written to Jewish Christians who were facing persecution and temptation to abandon their faith in Jesus. The author of Hebrews encourages them to hold fast to their confession and hope, because God is faithful and trustworthy.

One of the ways that the author does this is by reminding them of the example of Abraham, the father of the faithful, who received a promise from God that he would have a son and become a great nation. This promise was not fulfilled immediately, but after many years of waiting and testing. Abraham had to endure many trials and hardships, such as leaving his homeland, living as a nomad, facing famine and war, and even being asked to sacrifice his son Isaac.

But Abraham did not give up on God’s promise. He believed that God was able to do what He had said, and that He would keep His word. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise (Hebrews 6:15).

The author of Hebrews points out that God confirmed His promise to Abraham by an oath. He swore by Himself, since He had no one greater to swear by (Hebrews 6:13). He said, “Surely blessing I will bless you and multiply you” (Hebrews 6:14). This oath was meant to show the unchangeable nature of God’s purpose and the certainty of His promise. God wanted Abraham and his descendants to have a strong consolation and a sure hope.

The author of Hebrews then applies this lesson to his readers. He says that they have the same promise and the same oath from God. They have inherited the blessing of Abraham through faith in Jesus Christ, who is the seed of Abraham and the fulfillment of God’s promise (Galatians 3:16). They have also inherited the hope of eternal life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is the forerunner and the high priest of their salvation (Hebrews 6:19-20).

Therefore, they should not lose heart or waver in their faith. They should cling to God’s promise and oath as an anchor for their soul, a sure and steadfast hope that enters into the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as their representative and advocate (Hebrews 6:18-20).

The author of Hebrews wants us to learn from this passage that God is faithful and trustworthy. He does not lie or change His mind. He keeps His word and fulfills His promises. He gives us strong reasons to believe in Him and hope in Him. He invites us to enter into a covenant relationship with Him, sealed by His oath and by the blood of Jesus.

We can trust God with our lives and our future. We can rely on his grace and power. We can follow His will and obey His commands. We can endure trials and hardships with patience and perseverance. We can look forward to the day when we will see Him face to face in all His Glory.

Until we meet again, let's go serve our King!
