Lifting up the Son of Man

Just as Moses lifted the serpent in the wilderness...

Welcome back family of God!

We are sure thankful to be able to share with everyone each day, the wonder that is the Gospel.  When we take a moment to look at what God has done for us throughout the time we have had, it is humbling to know that He cares for us as much as He does.  Let us all take time each day to give God thanks not just once, but for everything...beginning to end and everything in between!  God is rich in Mercy and loves to save sinners, but we must come to Him through Christ and only by His way, not our own.

This week's posting will be short, as we wanted to remind you of the meeting we are having at Wasilla First Baptist Church this Saturday.  We have the honor of receiving "High Road" as they come to sing of the Glory of God.  We urge everyone to come early at 530PM for the BBQ and to fellowship with others, then at 7PM the show begins!  Hope to see everyone there!  See the front page or click here for details.

The sermon from last Saturday was great, as we continued further into John 8, we look at the interaction between Jesus and the Pharisees and the comparison of lifting up the Son of Man and lifting up of the serpent in the wilderness.  Our verses for the night were John 8:21-30, and in those few verses there is a mountain of Eureka moments!

21 So he said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.” 22 So the Jews said, “Will he kill himself, since he says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?” 23 He said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.” 25 So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning. 26 I have much to say about you and much to judge, but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.” 27 They did not understand that he had been speaking to them about the Father. 28 So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. 29 And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.” 30 As he was saying these things, many believed in him.

One of the first things we can see is the very hard hitting declaration from our Lord to the Pharisees that unless we believe that He is who He is, a man will die in his sins!  What's the first thing you notice about the Pharisees with this however?  They are more focused where He is going or if He will kill Himself...rather than the devastation that they will die in their sins!  We encourage you to watch the sermon and share it as always, it gets even better when Pastor Scott exposits the meaning of the serpent in the wilderness and lifting up of the Son of Man.  The bottom line dear friends, we must have faith and believe that Jesus is who He says He is, lest we not learn like the Pharisees and die in our sins.  So please, watch, share and come to the concert at Wasilla First Baptist Church this Saturday...we surely hope to see you there brothers and sisters!

Until we meet again, let's go serve our King!
