Let this mind be in you...

Welcome Family!

We pray that this week's sermon is a blessing to you, as we study deeper what it looks like to have the mind of Christ.  May God forever be the light unto our path.

The Mind of Christ: A Call to Humility and Exaltation

Philippians 2:5-11 is one of the most profound passages in Scripture, revealing both the humility and exaltation of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul calls believers to adopt the same mindset that Jesus displayed, one of selflessness, obedience, and ultimate glory.

"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the Name that is above every name, so that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:5-11, ESV)

The Humility of Christ

Paul begins by urging believers to adopt the mindset of Christ. Jesus, though fully God, did not cling to His divine privileges but willingly took on the form of a servant. His incarnation was not a loss of deity but an addition of humanity. He chose to humble Himself, experiencing the full depth of human suffering and submission.

This passage calls us to reflect on our own hearts. In a world that promotes self-promotion and personal gain, Jesus' example teaches us to lay aside pride and embrace servanthood. True greatness is found in humility and sacrificial love.

The Obedience of Christ

Christ’s humility was not just an outward appearance but a lived reality. He obeyed the Father’s will to the point of death— even the most shameful and excruciating form of execution, crucifixion. His obedience was not passive but intentional. He willingly bore our sins, taking on the punishment we deserved.

As followers of Christ, we are called to obedience as well. This means surrendering our will to God’s, trusting that His ways are higher than ours. Whether in small daily choices or in life-altering decisions, we are to walk in submission to His Word, just as Christ did.

The Exaltation of Christ

Because of His obedience and sacrifice, God exalted Jesus to the highest place. He has been given the Name above all names— the Name at which every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. This moment of universal recognition is inevitable. All of creation will one day acknowledge Christ’s Lordship, either in joyful worship or in fearful realization.

The exaltation of Christ assures us that humility and obedience are never in vain. Just as Jesus was lifted up in glory, we too, as His followers, will share in His victory. God honors those who humble themselves before Him.

Living in the Mindset of Christ

This passage challenges us to examine our own lives. Are we reflecting the humility, obedience, and trust that Jesus demonstrated? Are we living for His glory rather than our own? As we meditate on Philippians 2:5-11, may we be inspired to embrace the servant-hearted nature of Christ, knowing that in due time, God will exalt those who walk in His ways.

Let us strive to have the mind of Christ— a mind of humility, obedience, and unwavering devotion to the glory of God the Father.
